Found along Laurel Ridge in southern Pennsylvania sits Forbes State Forest. Set on 50,000 acres, the forest spans across Fayette, Somerset and Westmoreland counties and supports a number of activities, such as swimming, picnicking, hiking, camping and animal watching.
Primarily used as a picnic area, Laurel Summit State Park offers a number of picnic tables, a group pavilion, water facilities and restrooms. Located 2,739 ft (835 m) above sea level, the park tends to be a bit cooler than the nearby communities of Jennerstown, Laurel Mountain and Ligonier.
Laurel Mountain State Park is located in between Ligonier and Jennerstown in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Frequented by skiers and snowboarders, the 3,000 ft (914 m) mountain is home to the the Springs at Laurel Mountain, one of the first ski areas in Pennsylvania. The hill is open from December to March and contains a retail shop and a food area.
